We talk a lot about ethical trade, but not enough about reciprocity.
Africa is still framed as a beneficiary instead of a partner, even though it remains one of the world’s primary sources of value. This article is a reflection on why charity narratives fall short, what ethical trade actually requires, and the responsibility those of us in the diaspora carry to engage with Africa respectfully, reciprocally, and as equals.
If we are serious about equity, we have to be serious about ownership.
